These three days were spent in and around Auckland so I decided to do a photo gallery for each day with only a short written blog.
I stayed with Mum and Dad in Auckland which was lovely and nice to see some family again. Friday morning I sorted out a few things (phone, pack liner, drugs for cold).
In the afternoon caught the train into the CBD and resumed the TA sans pack. This is called “slack packing“ when you do a section without your pack and either gave your pack transporters to you or return to wherever you’re staying using transport. It is apparently within the “rules”
Friday night dinner at my nephew, Logan’s, restaurant (Beau) in Ponsonby. A shout out to Logan and Diva, they have done such a great job with Beau, a great evening and I’d recommend going along if you can.
Saturday Mum and Dad dropped me off where I finished Friday and I walked to the Airport.
Sunday up early to miss the heat of the day and a long walk out to Ramarama.
Now the reason I decided to do photo galleries for these days was as I walked through Auckland I couldn’t help but be astounded by the beauty of the place. Most of the time we pass through Auckland and never see the out of the way places nor do we observe it as tourists. Walking and in a somewhat circuitous route allowed me to see the city through a completely different lens, and I was impressed.
One point to note is through a quirk of Apple and my web site builder the photos appear in reverse order, i.e. the end of the day first.
Auckland CBD to One Tree Hill
One Tree Hill to Auckland Airport
Auckland Airport to Ramarama
I totally “ get” what you say about seeing Auckland through different eyes. Happened to me when I did the Coast to Coast from Onehunga to the Viaduct. Really enjoying your updates John . Look forward to them. Keep up the good work
Farewell big smoke....Hello more adventure
